Hypnobirthing course - Leicester

The Calm Birth Course With Paris - for couples who want to feel ready, not rehearsed

You don't need to believe that birth will be painless to want to feel calm about it. What you need is to actually understand what's happening in your body, tools that work when things get intense, and a partner who knows exactly how to support you, whatever your birth ends up looking like.

That's what this course is for.

What is hypnobirthing, really?

Hypnobirthing isn't about being hypnotised into ignoring pain, and it isn't a promise of a pain-free birth. It's a set of practical, evidence-informed tools, self-hypnosis, breathing, visualisation, and language, that work with your body's own physiology instead of against it.

When we're afraid, our bodies produce stress hormones that work against labour, tightening muscles that need to open and heightening the sensation of pain. This is often called the fear-tension-pain cycle. Hypnobirthing interrupts that cycle: not through denial, but through genuine physiological understanding and rehearsed calm.

The research backing this is strong, reviews of hypnosis in childbirth show it can reduce the need for pharmacological pain relief, including epidurals, and support more spontaneous births. NICE guidance supports women who choose to use hypnosis in labour. This isn't a wellness trend, it's a well-evidenced tool that maternity professionals recognise.

Why this course is different

Most hypnobirthing courses sell you calm by selling you a script: relax enough, believe enough, and you'll get the birth you pictured. If your birth doesn't go that way, that framing can leave you feeling like you failed at something.

I trained with The Perinatal Academy, and I bring my own background as a doula, yoga teacher, and someone with a doctorate examining power and care in institutional settings. That means this course is built differently:

  • Trauma-informed, not fear-based. We talk honestly about fear, where it comes from, how birth culture creates it, and how to release it, instead of pretending it isn't there.

  • Rooted in real informed choice. You'll leave knowing your options and your rights. Whatever your birth looks like, home, hospital, induced, assisted, caesarean, you'll have tools that still apply.

  • Built for your actual nervous system, using somatic and breath-based practices alongside the hypnobirthing toolkit, not just visualisation scripts.

  • Small and in-person. This isn't a pre-recorded course you'll watch once and forget. You're in the room, practising the tools with your body, with your birth partner, with me right there to adapt things to you.

What's included

  • Two in-person sessions, 3 hours each, in a small group of couples

  • The full hypnobirthing toolkit: self-hypnosis, breathing techniques, visualisation, and language for labour

  • Understanding fear, the fear-tension-pain cycle, and how to work with it, not against it

  • A birth partner's role: practical, hands-on ways to support you, not just stand nearby

  • A take-home client workbook to keep practising between sessions and into labour

  • Relaxation recordings to use throughout pregnancy and during birth itself

  • Ongoing support from me between sessions
